Amani's Moolelo (Story):
Born in Barbados, AMANI (meaning peaceful) grew up in a large family with 6 brothers and
sisters. Adventurous, curious and dedicated to helping people, Amani was accepted into the
prestigious medical school and looking forward to a position at Ross
University School of Medicine in Barbados. Life took an unexpected turn
and Amani found herself in a dangerous relationship. Using all her
knowledge and courage, she successfully left that relationship and went
back to school to study criminal justice in an effort to become an advocate
for abused women.
“Hopefull Handbags”, an organization dedicated to supporting women of domestic violence,
was founded by Cathlene Miner as a tribute to her Grandmother. Now, a global effort, Hopefull
Handbags provides shelter, education, training, support and empowerment to thousands of
women worldwide. “Together We Are Stronger!”
